Early Long Purple

EG02

Also known by its French name Violette Longue Hative. A fine old heirloom that dates back to the 1850’s in America. Our 1856 catalog says that it is, “the earliest and most productive. Fruit long and of superior quality.” This long, tender variety truly is early and makes delicious fried or roasted eggplant.

best eggplant yet Review by Michael Westerfield

Overall Rating

I've tried a number of different varieties of eggplant in northeastern Connecticut, with varying degrees of success. The Early Long Purple variety from Comstock which I planted this year had the largest crop of fruit on the most vigorous plants of any type I have tried yet. The catelogue discription is exactly correct. The fruit are tender and delicious. I strongly recomment it to anyone in my area..

Even beter this past year Review by Michael Westerfield

Overall Rating

2012 was the second year I grew Early Long Purple eggplant. The second year the crop was even better than the first, plentiful and delicious from early in the season to first frost. Large, vigorous plants. I was totally satisfied - no - delighted with how well this variety produced in Northeastern Connecticut..
